Manganese Sulfate occurs as a pale-pink, granular powder. It is freely soluble in water, but is insoluble in alcohol.Specification of Feed grade

Appearance
Pale pink crystalline powder, slightly hygroscopic.
Solubility
Freely soluble in water, practically insoluble in ethanol (96 per cent).IDENTIFICATION
A. Solution S (see Tests) gives reaction of sulphates.
B. Dissolve 50 mg in 5 ml of water. Add 0.5 ml of ammonium sulphide solution. A pale pink precipitate is formed which dissolves on the addition of 1 ml of anhydrous acetic acid.
C. Loss on ignition (see Tests).TESTS
Solution S
Dissolve 10.0 g in distilled water and dilute to 100 ml with the same solvent.
Appearance of solution
Solution S is not more opalescent than reference suspension.
Chlorides
Maximum 100 ppm.
Iron
Maximum 10 ppm, determined on solution S.
Zinc
Maximum 50 ppm.
Heavy metals
Maximum 20 ppm.
Loss on ignition
10.0 per cent to 12.0 per cent, determined on 1.00 g at 500 ± 50C.
